Did you know that, in 2003, Dr. Arlen Fulton argued that “child development experts see moving as one of the most disruptive events in a child’s life”? Okay, you are an adult now. That does not necessarily make moving any easier. The top reasons for moving are far from a “bag of laughs.” In fact, most moves are motivated by divorce, torn families, and job loss. To top it all off, there is a very high likelihood that your cat is going to hide, somewhere clever and out of the way, for days before adjusting to your new home. Not even “Fluffy” will be around to comfort you. Stop moping, and beat moving blues with these easy steps.
Pack Way Ahead
Do not leave preparations for long distance moves to the very last minute. Pack ahead, pack way ahead. Start packing months ahead of time, and pack smart, too. What does that mean? Only pack what you need, and donate unused items to charity. Pack your heaviest items at the bottom of boxes, and lighter items on top. Wrap dishes in protective packing paper, or bubble wrap, and pack them on their sides, never one on top of the other. When you are done packing a box, label it as clearly as possible, and use a lot of tape. I repeat… a lot of tape. You are much better off tackling boxes in your new home with box cutters, and feeling like Indiana Jones cutting through jungles with a scythe, than you are with broken items and packed boxes that bottom out.
Start That Binder
Wedding binders are fairly common. Common enough, at least, to be featured on top TV series like How I Met Your Mother and Friends. Moving, especially cross country moves, can require just as much planning, so why not build your very own moving binder? Fill moving binders with important phone numbers, estimates, receipts, and a list of belongings that need to make it to your new home. Having all of the information at your fingertips can help you compare rates, and hire the best long distance movers, too.
Moving means big changes, and that can get you down. Keep your spirits up by making moves as painless as possible. Pack ahead, pack smart, and consider putting together an organized moving binder.

I’m not the most organized person (and I’ll be the first to admit it)! But creating a wedding binder actually seems kind of fun. Even maybe a remodeling/redecorating binder still sounds exciting. The move binder sounds practical, but more like actual work.
