Did you know that the average car weighs 4,000 pounds? Unlike suitcases, you cannot just bring cars on the plane with you when you are moving across the country. For this reason, many people rely on auto transport companies to help them accomplish this.
When people hire moving services, they travel an average of 1,100 miles. If you are planning a move and need a way to transport your vehicle, here are three things you should know about finding a great auto shipping company.
1. Checking Reviews
The transport industry is big. The freight industry overall generates five billion dollars in revenue every year. With the internet came more companies offering their services. Because the cost to starting a brokerage business was relatively low, at this point there was a large increase in the number of consumers citing internet fraud for vehicle shipping companies.
For this reason, you need to be careful when selecting a transport company. Look for companies who are licenses and insured, and check out what other customers have said about them on online auto transport reviews. If someone complained, did the company follow through to resolve the problem? Taking the time to check auto transport reviews can save you from future stress.
2. Know the Difference in Services
Two terms you might encounter are car shipper, and car broker. A car broker is someone who arranges the transportation of your vehicle by contacting different companies, while a car shipper does the actual job of transporting. The benefit of dealing directly with a car shipper is that, if something goes wrong, you know who to blame. Unlike brokers who deal with multicarriers, a single car shipper will often deliver your car the quickest. Brokers, however, are useful because they can get lower prices through competitive bidding.
3. How Much Should You Expect to Pay for Vehicle Shipping?
This really depends on a number of factors, including the size of your car, the route the driver can take, the transport company, and the season. Getting a car from California to New Jersey, for example, might cost around $2,500. Keep in mind that if you were to drive the vehicle yourself, you would be spending hundreds of dollars in gas anyway, while also using up your mileage. You can get multiple quotes online from different companies, though you should keep in mind that these quotes are not necessarily the final price. More info like this.

worth noting that you can transport more than just cars. When we were moving to florida we had our boat shipped, since that was a lot easier and safer than having someone sail all the way down the coast.
if I have an expensive car, will it cost more for it to be shipped, or is it really just the weight of the car that matters for those calculations?
